Corbett, Space Cadet
NBC-TV, 1950-55, B&W, TV serial 15 and 30 min. episodes
Debuting
in 1950, this TV space opera is set in the year 2352 and based upon
the novel Space Cadet by Robert A. Heinlen. Tom is a Rocketeer,
assigned to the Rocket Cruiser Polaris along with Astro the Venusian
Navigator and radar man Roger Manning. The program initially ran
15 minutes, are lent authenticity by the technical advice of rocket
expert Willy Lay. Perhaps not surprisingly the Polaris closely resembles
a German V-2. The visual effects was, for most part, meticulos and
convincing and many of them advancing the current state of the art
of television technology.
